Alan, aggravating postings by such folks are best ignored. I know it is difficult not to respond but restraint is the best way forward. There was nothing in your comment that would raise the blood pressure of normal folk, however for someone suffering a frustration of some sort eg his girl/boyfriend refusing unwanted advances any excuse will do. I read his post yesterday & made no response on the basis that ignoring folks like that starves them of the attention they crave.

Test rides:

I wouldn't buy a new motorcycle without a test ride.
No matter what you read from sage experts it is not the same as trying the bike yourself. For example, last year I got close to buying a new BMWF800GS, one of the most highly regarded adventure bikes by the press. For me, I found it terrible, handling was iffy, the seat like a plank and worst of all vibration that makes your hands ache at exactly the speed you need to cruise at for long journeys. I couldn't live with one. None of these things would come to light by looking at a glossy brochure, you need a decent test ride on both twisty roads and fast dual carriage ways for at least an hour. All the little ergonomics come to light, like the stupid layout of the indicator controls on the GS etc.
Conversely, I get surprised sometimes by bikes that don't seem to be liked by the press, yet work well and deliver more than they promise.
With the Conti GT I didn't expect much, I'm not keen on the classic EFI models, but after riding a GT for a day I "get" what the bike is about.

Morning all,
I also booked a test ride online at my local (other side of London) dealers a while back but heard nothing back. I was going past the shop yesterday and had a look - loads of them in there! A couple of them had different silencers on, and when I mentioned not hearing back about the test ride, the fella said "Do you want to do it now?" I politely refused (a bit hung over from the night before) but I did take one of its stand to feel the weight and I sat on it to get an idea. We started it up and that's as far as I want to take it! Nice looking machine, but the style and riding position is really not my cup of tea! Having said that I sincerely hope this model is a success for those that are up for it!
Will post a couple of pictures later.

Hi guys---------Ladies & Gentlemen, ARTHUR made his comments---- I've responded---------'NUFF SAID !!...Moving swiftly back to the thread topic I've been in 'phone contact with my nearest dealer who apparently has one in at the moment but can't let me test ride it due to no insurance cover !!....That's a pity as my No1 Bullet is in "2-up,Distance Touring" trim so a sporty item for solo fun use would compliment it quite well....Looks like as with some of you others out there I'm in for a long journey to achieve my aims ??.......PETER 53 sums it up just right ie}-- Is it your cup-of-tea ?? Only one way to find out so I'm off to the RE Web site right now... Wish me luck !!.....PS, thanks for the support.....

Seems I struck a nerve...apologies if I offended - seems that everyone but me can " vent their spleens" - as free speech seems to banned on this forum to everyone but the "regulars" I will withdraw and not contribute again.

I have a sympathy for Arthur. Post-purchase dissonance afflicts us all - buy bike car house etc and then we look for ways of endorsing our decision. Up pops Alan R with a comment that whilst innocent rankles Arthur. Understandable - it would hack me off too if I had just spent 5k plus on the latest product. That said. Sorry Arthur, no chance I will buy a GT after having given it a test ride I found it underwhelming but it just confirmed EFI is not for me.
