I meant to add, I tried the IAM. Having to endure two arrogant idiots urging me to speed, and a moron who complied with the law until the lesson was over then did 70mph in a 30 on his Rocket 3, I decided the IAM could do without my involvement.

Mike, on further research they seem to have changed the rules in April this year.................."DRIVERS can now travel at speeds of up to 42mph in a 30mph zone without being fined or given penalty points, the Grimsby Telegraph can reveal. Motorists are instead being given the chance to attend a speed awareness course, costing £95, to educate them about the dangers. Under the previous rules, drivers travelling at ten per cent over the speed limit, plus two to six miles per hour, were offered the course. This has now increased to those travelling at 10 per cent over the speed limit, plus two to nine miles per hour, meaning drivers can travel at speeds of up to 42mph in a 30mph zone without facing a fine and points.................This certainly wasn't the case when I did my SAC in 2012 in this police area. Unless I'm looking at outdated information, police authorities can set their own limits even though this is a national scheme. If anyone has chapter and verse on this I would be interested.

Oooooops, 9 points in 15 months???? Did you accelerate 3 time to avoid 3 accidents? So that many points in so short a time may cause your/any insurance company to reassess your risk status. I am certainly no angel when riding or driving and I have had points and attended Safety Awareness Courses in my time, but I have learned to keep to the limits and avoid points and fines. Seriously if that is your record over 15 months are you surprised at the insurance companys response? Remember the government may appear to be after your money BUT you do not have to give it to them on a plate, and certainly not 3 times in just over a year. Slow down Sofiaspin or you will noy have a licence at all, never mind an increased insurance premium, then and who's fault will that be......the governments??????

Phew for a moment I thought Enfield owners were Liberals but it comforting to note that there is a strong hard line approach, I like that.

Liberals???? Bloody cheek! I'm just waiting for my local Liberal muppet (Nick Harvey)to come a knockin' for my vote. Then I can discuss the lack of promised voting reform, lords reform, student fees and all the other filthy lies with him. No matey, I'm no liberal ;)The only thing liberal about Enfields are the vibrations, break downs and the liberal amounts of mayo in the oil :)

Ha ha SS, I am neither a Liberal nor an Enfield owner. Having said that you should not confuse any degree of liberalism, of either the political or non-political variety, with tacit acceptance of your right to break either the law or the speed limits. Ultimately the greater the number of accidents or greater risk of traffic offences from a specific group of road users will have an impact on the premiums that we all pay. Well that's all my ranting over on this one. Carry on the debate chaps.

Aside from lecturing, has anyone got useful suggestions other than Bennetts ref insurance for those that blip the throttle? Bennetts gave me a decent quote. Footman refused to quote. Carole Nash was too expensive. I don't want to bin the Enfield.

If it helps ease the hurt any my Brother-in-Law was "done" a while back and opted for the speed awareness course...His car ? an MG, his politics?... Liberal, his occupation ?
