Right we have progress. I stripped and cleaned the carb and jets. As I posted earlier, the needle was cockeyed - because it was cought up in the throttle spring 3 coils up!!! now sorted. Starts OK now and with a bit of tweaking she's running smoothly. Still suspect she's running rich so I'll do some checks for tghat. I do like the Start you Basterd trick with a can in the toolbox (BTW it's called boring "Easy Start" in UK) Thanks for everyone's help.
