Yes i agree, put the Boyer back in.As much as points are simple they do need regular maintenance
as they will let you know with an occasional misfire or hard starting.Whenever you clean up the points they then require retiming. Most of us these days have better things to do,having started this ritual 40 or so years ago!MM

Hi guys--------- Ha !! Now there's a coincidence... I last did a major service on my Classic 500 about 1 year / 1,000 miles ago with new points etc. and it's just started that occasional mis-fire / spit back and poor cold starting, having been totally clean and reliable all this time..Due for a "tweak" then, methinks ??--------- with regards to ign. timing}-- it should be done at full advance anyway (use our hosts points advance locking tool). It's where the engine ignition spends most of its' running time ... Too many people set it up for idling -- ie fully retarded -- then expect those piddly springs to give a good advance curve !!.... I will say this}--- If you already have an electronic system then fit it for sure as they really are worth it..Currently all my disposable income is aimed at getting this Army Despatch bike on the road....Unless someone has a surplus Boyer for sale, that is ??
