My iron 500 sounds rattly when cold but seems to quieten after a longish ride. Maybe I'm just deaf by then? I think a lot of the noise I get is from the gear train in the cam cover. It certainly is louder since fitting a screen and like Pete, its much noisier when the tank is running low.

Hi Alan, the rattle was top end under the rocker covers and a very obvious high pitched and metallic sound. The whole engine is original and standard, but as mentioned, it now purrs along and all it took was the slightest adjustment.

hi mr t purrs along eh does it start any better or is it the usual twenty kicks ?i,ll smoke my pipe while your doing your starting procedure on saturday going to stafford can,t wait for the strines on the rigid!!atbpaul.

Its that luke warm temp when it decides to take 20 kicks Paul, hot or stone cold its a second kick. Can't work out why, plug colour good, fairly new points and condenser, battery good. I think its down to a critical air lever position in that awkward temperature range.

hi chris ,the air lever on y electra only needs to be used on initial start up but heyho its a quirk of your bike and it leaves time for me to have a pipe lol.atb paul.
