[Bertie the Bullet]

Ok cheers gents, I think I will just put up with it, dont fancy grinding the chrome away, anyway the Goldie exhaust is off the bike for the winter (dont want it getting rusty) and has been replaced with the already rusty cigar Bertie was built with.

Mike, some Hinckley bikes have SS pipes. Don't know about The Thruxton.

PeteF,is yours the original (india made)exhaust?
Simon sounds good advice about the top end plug chop,i`ve read that the 535 bullet like mine can be too lean,i`ve checked it on tickover and it`s ok.I`ve checked it after a run out not going over 60mph and the plug appears to have burnt soot on it.

No Jaffa, it's a Hitchcocks replacement, the 1950s style. Soot on the plug would indicate it was too rich. If the thing is running OK apart from that I would try dropping the needle one notch and see what you get. A bit on the rich side is safer than on the lean side but soot would indicate it's more than a bit too rich. You'll not tell much from a tickover plug check.
