Wow that tyre was tight, even the tyre centre had to work hard on the machine to get the tyre off. With a new tube in the tyre bead would fit flush with the rim until there was 60 psi in the tube and then it popped on.

I was surprised the amount of rust particles and stains on the old inner tube, the bike is only 3.5 years old.

This wheel wheel is less than 3 years old, first time the tyre has been removed.

Those Avon Road Riders are really tough to get off as I've just found out, but worse was getting the new semi enduro tyres on, but it's something I enjoy doing, I've had loads of practice over the last 60yrs and I still have the same 3 short toolbox levers.

Have you notice the size of the tyre levers in the C5 tool kit, I don't think they would get the lid off a paint pot let alone the tyres.

Most of mine went that way too. I wonder if they are using loads of soapy water rather than just tyre soap to fit them. I find it takes a lot of pressure to get the beads to pop onto enfield rims too -especially considering they are tubed fitment- which might explain why they'd do such a thing.

They clean up reasonably well with a rotray wire brush, then a coat of rust killer and some zinc oxide to stop it happening again. POR15 resin paint, like they use to seal rusty fuel tanks also does a very good job inside rims.

I use a rust treatment called Hydrate 80 to treat the rust.
I think the major problem is poor chrome plate process.
There appears to be no base prep of copper or nickel, just chrome straight onto the steel.

I don't think there's any chrome at all below the crimp in the rim. Looks like some sort of cold galvanize produst?
