I almost hate to mention this Dai, but the issue with the rotor diameter issue was between early and later Lucas rotors.

All the Indian Bullets from later years apart from the Lean Burn and EFI models use the same diameter rotor O/D and stator I/D as the later Lucas motorcycle alternators, which allows for a lot of interchangeability. This allows Indian Bullet owners simply to fit a Lucas stator on an Indian rotor if the magnetism is still good (our hosts even got Lucas to make an upgraded 4 wire stator just to boost Indian Bullets' electrics), or just fit a complete Lucas or Sparx alternator in its place, as the stator stud spacing is the same. My Not A Fury has a Sparx 005 (similar to the Lucas RM21, allegedly better!) which is a straight fit onto the (Indian) crankshaft and inner primary case, though it has a Redditch outer primary case to look the part.

I fitted the Lucas RM21 and must admit that I was disappointed when I found out that it was made in India, well I think it was Lucas seems to be a Indian company now
Anyway it charges fine now with it's bent stator

Back to the original question I do think that changing to DC lighting would be a good idea
Keep safe all Dai
