The other thing that occurred to me with a mainstand is that you could probably cable-tie the original mainstand to the luggage rack along with a pin. If you need a wheel out, you can temporarily fit the stand, no need to mess about with springs, splitpins etc., just offer it up to the holes in the engine plate and slip the pin in.

That said, will a standard mainstand even touch the ground with longer shocks and a 21" front wheel? They barely lift a wheel as standard.

21" /18" wheels with TKC80's and standard shocks - the bike sits on the stand but both tyres are touching the floor. With the 330mm shocks I think the centre stand will be redundant.

My Watsonian Squire 350 2006 came with TKC80'S 110/80/19 REAR and 100/90/19 FRONT.These have been replaced with Ensign 350/90/19's from our hosts with little or no compromise on or off road

For off-road I’d suggest a narrower front tyre, a 2.75 (in old sizes or equivalent). Better handling and certainly better progress through mud and tricky going. Wider than that and steering becomes heavier and less precise.
That size front would be fine on road as well.
Mr H offers Dunlop in this size (21 inch only though).

Yes, a very limited choice for 19” rims; hence my fitting tyres from two different manufacturers as a compromise.

Mixing manufacturer tyres front and back is not an issue, if both tyres are designed to fit the bike in question.

Although I don’t condone one being a motocross tyre and the other being a slick ;)

To pick up on the original question - would a wider [i.e. 3.50] front be better [than a narrower tyre] because it would offer more 'grip area'? And 'is wider better?'
The answer is No.
A wider front tyre is not an advantage. Grip in terms of traction isn't what's wanted at the front. A narrower tyre on the front will add not inhibit progress.

Traction is what's needed at the rear driving wheel, not the front steering wheel. So a wide enough rear tyre with lower than normal pressure will get you extra grip and the thinner front will help directionality.

Sorry bit late to the party
I am running ensign universal's on asbo 30
3•25"-19 front 3▪50"-19 rear
To be honest they are a good compromise tyre that are also lasting well and I will fit again
If I was doing more off road I would have put a 3-00 front

Good luck for the Dragon

The best combo by far is 4.00 x18 rear and 2.75 x 21 front. 2.75 will steer much better than a wider tyre and roll over obstacles much easier. If you plan to ride in observed trials sanctioned by ACU or AMCA then you would need to use the standard trials pattern tread as used by first time novices and world champions.! Just about every trials bike uses these sizes. I'm sure someone will disagree.
