Problem might be that the part of the ferrule that fits into the housing is a bit too short, combined with a bit too much slack in the cable.

I chose a screw with a long enough shank to make sure it couldn't drop out (but the 5 speed needs the cable adjusted up fairly tight anyway). You could use a blob of silicone or similar to secure it in the housing.

A bit of PVC tape round it does work though. Can't come off then. As would a tiny slice of rubber hose over the wide end. Keeps it simple.

If the cable is properly adjusted & lubed then the little ferrule cannot come adrift.
However it is possible if the cable is frayed and sticky in the outer cable.
And why would anyone be riding with a cable like that?
Another possibility would be a stuck slide due warped carb/flange, eg Amal MK1i Concentric.
In that case a lost ferrule will be the least of your concerns

I’ve only had the bike a few months, never thought it was the right cable; way too long.

Bike’s covered now, this picture doesn’t show how much cable there is between the bars and nacelle.. still, better too long than too short....

In my experience, the amal type throttle cables with the inline adjusters are pretty catchy out of the packet and get worse with time. Usually where it passes through that adjuster which I find a total pain to route neatly through the headlamp casing without it landing up at an odd angle, the adjuster never seems happy and smooth in action unless it's on a straight run.

I just make my own cables without an adjuster these days using lined sheathing. Can't think I've had a single bought one that wasn't slightly graunchy from the outset. There's a pile of them in my box of random cables that I rob for spare inners/fittings.

Well stinkwheel, if you’re feeling bored one day and you’re making spares, I’d be happy to buy a throttle cable off you that fits a 350 with an Amal monobloc with the handlebar end like my fitting....

It’s not necessary at the moment, but without the slight kink adjuster, might be neater and out of the way.

And..... does anyone know what my handlebar controls are from; which year etc. Because on the website, mine do not look like the 2002/3 350 export.

I'll freely admit I don't have a very good hit rate with getting the free-length correct first time.

I usually make them on the bike by cutting the outer to length, fitting a carb nipple to one end then cutting the inner in situ

Hitchcock's do a ferrule cable clip to retain the ferrule in case the cable breaks.You can view it on line fitted to the bike by looking at Part No 93039.Worked for me

That twist-grip housing looks like a Magura type to me.
Maybe wrong.
But that's not often the case!!!!
