The leaky tank puts me in mind of how a welder mate of mine sorted a CX500 tank years ago - he took about 20 ft of 'giant toilet roll' - you know, that blue hand cleaning paper, soaked it in diesel and put one end into the filler hole in the tank, which was laid on the yard and took the other end round the corner of the shed ... and lit it. After the tank came back down from near orbit, he welded it, but it would have held about 7 gallons, had he not squeezed it back into shape by ratchet strapping it back to something resembling its original shape! Take care! -- Paul.

The tanks been empty at the bottom of my wardrobe for many months so I doubt it would explode, good thread though Paul. Other Paul, I'll take you up on that, its the bottom left fin above the crankcase breather. Yes that old tanks back out again, can you braze it? I need somewhere to put Kens 'Enfield' knee pads.

If it's a Bullet there must be loads of cheap second hand barrels knocking around with a full set of fins. There must be at least one for every alloy barrel Mr H sells.

Hi Chris re: welding fins if brazing fins on a barrel chamfer the edges on the piece your welding on the barrel and the broken part on the barrel try for 45degrees on each piece the loose one will need to be supported in place maybe with a small strong magnet being cast iron you really need to slowly pre-heat the whole barrel and after brazing with flame or electric put it back in the hot oven and let it cool down slowly other wise you will hear a lot of pinging and discover a lot of hair line cracks if her indoor wont let you use an oven make a kiln with fire bricks or old tiles and put a gas ring in. I took mine to a welding specialist as I have not got my welding cylinders now but I asked him to pre-heat before and cool slow but he said there was no need with the equipment they use I waited and watched whilst they did it but it started pinging as it cooled down and when I got it home and cleaned and dressed it up there was the cracks I was going to take it back and say "I told you so" A TIP keep any old knackered barrels, you can then cut of the section of the knackered barrel that is the same shape of the one you want to repair

Alan, excellent!, John M, yes I know but its off an old Redditch one, its just the same as my Indian one but because its so old but still on its original bore I want to keep it. Duffel, good advice although I can't do it myself with my facilities. Paul, I think I know your opinion on the tank!
