Seeing that the engine has been fitted with modded parts, a thought.

Have the incorrect length of pushrods been fitted? If the cam base circles have been reground, this would mean that slightly longer pushrods might be needed; I know that they are available in different sizes.

If the originals have been retained and are too short, they might be close to the limit of their adjustment and be prone to "issues".

I've actually made new pushrods out of solid 7075 alloy bar anyway so they've been made to length and really shouldn't bend. They can't bend past their elastic phase within the constraints of the pushrod tunnel anyway. Only worked out 25g heavier than standard ones.

Gday SW
This post may be a little late, but if its any consolation, I had to clearance the case step for the 90023 cams, whereas the 200180s fit without issue.
Feeler gauge showed 10th interference.
I dont have a "before" photo, but the top pic shows the hand clearanced step.

Paulie

Thanks for that. Yes, it's the 90023 I have. I've fitted a new pair of standard spindles, the ones that were in it seem to have been under diameter, the new ones were to drive in with heat.

It must have been *just* touching the cam and no more when I built the motor and a slight movement on the spindle took it to not having enough clearance.

So new spindles, new rods, carankcases relieved. Fingers crossed for road test tomorrow.

Well that went well :D .

It's never run so nicely. Purring along at a sustained 70mph most of the way.

Doing a 60 mile round trip in January to buy a bottle of stuff to clean the salt off the bike from doing a 60 mile round trip in January seems a tad recursive.

Once it's dried off, next step is to get it up on the lift, nip down head nuts, adjust tappets and ACF50 everything within reach as a prelude to the Bruce Pollard and Dragon rallies next month.
