hi all, the threads in the top of my cylinder heads (59 Connie) for the head steady brackets are toast...thinking of helicoiling them. My question is...would it be acceptable to use a metric helicoil insert as these are a lot easier and cheaper to purchase? Existing thread is 5-16 coarse I think, is there any benefit in installing a fine thread to help cope with vibration? Any tips/suggestions gratefully received. Richard

No reason no to use metric accept for authenticity.
It all depends what sort of stuff you normally work on - will you use the imperial again? Or more likely to use the metric?
It's also a lot cheaper to buy a set of the most common sizes - again, depends if they'll get used again.
If it really is a one-off could you not borrow one?
