That is a strange switch. It looks like it only has one lead and a plastic body? That would suggest that the brass bit in the middle is a contact rather than an actuator.

The picture I posted shows the black plastic shroud off. My new-to-me Electra came with a plain repro Smiths' speedo, no neutral light, this had been moved to the Frankenstein instrument panel which has now been junked, so I could probably disconnect the thing anyway. Will attempt removal today and report back.

By the way, we're onto our third page over a mere SWITCH. Just saying...

Norm My Electra X (ish.)Has a wiring loom nothing like the manual, and also several electrical components are in a different location.
For instance the coil is tucked between the strengthening plates behind the headstock.

All Electra coils in that spot as far as I know. The wiring loom for the switch would have to be different to take the switch or it has been altered

When I have the time, I will lift the bike off of the ground, using the "cruiser" lifter I purchased for working on the Ball and Chains VS800 Suzuki Intruder. There is a "bash plate" bolted underneath my bike so there should be no problem.
(I will have one sidecar outfit less in the garage in a couple of weeks whilst it is having its annual "birthday." That will leave enough room do the job plus I can put put safety chains on the bike when it is raised so I don't end up wearing it.)
