So will the VM28 manifold fit a 350 barrel? Damn, I had a spare 28mm mikcarb which I gave the guy who bought my other 500 bullet!

That said, there's one on ebay for about £30, might just grab it anyway. Trouble is, I'm using the bike at the weekend so I don't have time for trying to set up the carb.

Anyone fitted a VM28 to a 350 before? I wouldn't even know where to start with baseline settings. Although perhaps the standard 500 settings might be a good starting point, I suppose it's about fuel:air ratio more than it's about charge volume. Got one of our hosts tuned cylinder heads and a "higher" compression piston with the usual noisy pipe and S&B filter.

Hadn't realised it's been 5 years since I fitted that carb. Time flys!

Not sure about the jetting, but getting the VM28 Mikarb to fit the 350 cylinder head can be done with the right adapters. Have a look at eg Allens' Mikuni site for possible mounting rubbers, the 350 head's inlet tract has the same 2"/50.8mm stud centres as most pre-Mark 2 Amal carbs, I don't know the O/D of the 28mm Mikarb mounting stub, but it shouldn't be too hard to find something. Are the inlet tracts on our hosts' tuned 350 heads taken out to 28mm?

A.

Aye, the tuned heads are set up to run with a 28mm carb (hence having one) but I usually have to go at the gasket with a craft knife.

Think I'll get this mikcarb anyway. It might come in handy for other stuff and seeing if/how it'll fit will be easier with it in front of me. It'll still be worth £30 if I decide to put it back on.

Had a 28mm mikuni on my 350 head (it was actually a vm26 bored out) and now I recall it did need an adaptor to get it to fit. The rear of the carb also required supporting to keep weight off the adaptor and to prevent the carb from being spat off which happened regularly until it was correctly jetted. This was done by fitting a pod filter onto the carb and running a support bracket from the metal plate on the pod filter to one of the welded on nuts on the frame which the tea caddy was originally fixed to.
unfortunately it did take a while to dial in the jetting. Perhaps in hindsight if yours is jetted correctly with an Amal, a a new slide and body would save a lot of work.
