Hi All

I'm converting to 535cc and upping the compression as part of the rebirth of my 500 Bullet Clubman S.

What's the concensus on fitting a decompressor or not?

I never used te decompressor when the bike was std comp 500 and I've always blanked off on std engined 350's I've owned.

Tomshayes. I too had a Indian 500 and I didn't alaways use the decomp because, at ~6:1, it wasn't so hard to kick. BUT now, with the 8.5:1 535 piston, the pain of getting it wrong means I always use the decomp. Mine's mounted in between the rocker boxes because I have a second plug in the original decomp hole.
Cheers, ChrisD

Hi Tom

You might like to speak to the Bullet Whisperer (Paul Henshaw at Performance Classics).

My 612 has a compression ratio of around 9.5:1 and Paul has a neat solution.

The idea (and it works) is that you use the little lever thing to reduce the compression, for starting, and then flip it off once the bike is running.

The pictured version was Paul's prototype (which is fitted to my bike) but I believe Paul has since designed a Carlos Fangango version.

Here is a Royal Enfield Fury 500 also equipped with a modified decompressor, I offered this idea to our hosts a while ago, in case anyone thinks I am trying to muscle in with this [they are fiddly to make one at a time] ... https://youtu.be/yiYNNJ8soAE
