I just want to get away from the open springs a) for ascetic reasons and b) for practicality / cleaning etc.
Not too bothered about fitting original shocks per se.. Especially in light of their design faults etc as you've outlined.
Allan H has told me in an e mail that the correct length should be 290mm so I am going to opt for adjustable enclosed Hagon shocks.. Apparently the later "Armstrong" type with the knurled adjusters, as fitted to the Super Meteor and Constellation etc are likely to snag on the Meteor frame.
