Bit of an 'I did that' moment here - I think I may have been the first to strobe an Electra X and, to cut a long story short, I drilled and tapped a suitable hole in the primary case for an inspection plug and made appropriate marks for checking the timing by strobe. The machine I checked was about 4 degrees too advanced at starting / idle speed and about 4 degrees short at full advance. This is where the performance CDI / TCI boxes originate from. I also elongated the two fixing bolt holes and ground off the locating dowels for the ignition pick up unit, so I could move that. This was done on a machine for our hosts, who then must have checked more machines and found similar errors.
