Points failed about 350 miles into the ride, due to the plastic actuator arm breaking clean across. The irony -- all the 60 year old bits are fine, it was the new points I fitted last week that broke. Recovered to Cardiff, fitted some new points and rode home over the last 2 days. I reckon 800 miles in 4 days riding means that rehabilitation is now complete.
