Hi Olly, that sounds like it could be a loose exhaust valve seat, or damaged / burnt exhaust valve. I would be looking in that sort of area and it sounds like it is likely to be a head off job. Regards, Paul.

I had a very similar noise on my 350 that drove me insane for years. It would only make it at certain times, there are vids of it on this site somewhere. I did the valve seats and the rockers and endless other things until I finally sussed that it was the oil pump spindle slipping teeth on the worm drive. I replaced the worm and stopped using straight 50 oil. I also replaced the old heavy gauge springs in the ends of the oil pump. As there is no oil pressure relief valve in the Indian Bullets when pressure gets too high something has to give and it is preferable to have the pump bodies lifting off that the spindle slipping or worse stripping. Wouldnt be a problem if it had a roller bigend but it dont. Good luck S

Pics leon posted 2 pistons came from my 93 local indian product, pistons were pretty crap drill 2 holes and hacksaw cut between, problem was as bike was built for local indian market only had a 90 main jet instead of a 110 but bike only had 273klms on it when I bought it way to lean was used to 2 strokes that rattle a bit.on these pistons it was the piston skirt that broke away, my intro to indian qc.
