As an addendum, does the platform the mag sits on have positioning studs to locate with the two holes in the crankcase ?

Sorted thank you Gents. I cut approx 25mm from each strap, overlapped 20mm and spot welded. Very pleased.

Great, I hope we'll get pictures of all these winter rebuilds in due course? (Including mine!) I actually went on to Photobucket the other day to try to post some pics of the Ebay Bullet but PB was playing up and I couldn't even get into the account.
