Well Christmas is upon us and many will be looking online for that special thing, but beware of the clever wording that some use. Below is a list of the most common and what they really mean.










Updated list of ebay terminology...


"RARE" - this item is ten times the price of all the other matching items on ebay today

"L@@K" - Seller lives in the 1990's and thinks this is still cool

"Good for it's age" - a 20 year old item which looks like it has had 50 years of abuse

"UNTESTED" - It smoked more than my grandfather when we plugged it in / we dropped it / we broke it.

"Looks complete" - more than half of it (or the rarest part) is missing.

"BARN FIND" - It's suffered from damp and is either seized solid, rusty or badly corroded.

"Found in Granny's attic" - Granny put it up there because it was broken. You will never get rid of the spiders, smell of mothballs or the general corrosion.

How true. If it copies over properly herewith my own Yuletide offering, an Ode to The EFI. Iambic pentameter it ain't but it does scan (more or less). Sing to the tune of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". Or not.
Once I had a Royal Enfield
‘Twas an E-F-I you know.
But quite often it would misfire
And oft times refuse to go.
Spark plugs fouled; it was a right pain.
The engine conked out when it did rain
And the wiring was a mess;
The battery lead caused me distress.

So I put a Hitchcock’s carb on;
What a difference it did make.
Now the engine does tick over
And has lost its dreadful shake.
No need for that useless “choke”
(Was that thing some kind of joke?)
Power Commander: Keep away!
With main jets I’d rather play.

Oh well. Clearly one can't copy over format. Never mind, it should still make sense...Enjoy. No, I haven't got a day job to give up, so nothing to lose really.

I like "genuine reason for sale". All reasons for selling are genuine! Including: I can't be ar**d to take it to the tip, it's broken beyond my abilities, it's stolen and I don't want to be caught with it, etc. "Can't be many left now" means this one is so desperate even the desperate don't want it! "Was running when laid up/30 years ago/when my Dad retired" according to someone who's rose tinted memory hasn't aged well... And many more!
