I've decided!I'm going to order the unsprung single seat and get some miles in on that. In the meantime, I will still have the dual seat that came with the bike so I can take my time to either make it lower and narrower myself or find someone who can adapt it for me without charging a fortune. Then I can put that back on when I am ready to start taking my daughter for some rides.

The solo seat should put you right down on the subframe which is as low as it goes. There are some unpadded versions (bobber) which are lower, never fancied them. There is a rack that fits behind a solo seat which will take an occasional use pillion pad. If it is a pad that bolts to the mudguard then there are wider things out there but some are cheap and nasty.

It may well be possible to fit the 18-in C5 wheel into the B5 in place of the 19-in one, lowering it by an inch. By rights this would need a bigger gearbox cog to compensate.

Not wishing to be picky, Jefrs, but surely replacing a 19” wheel with an 18” would reduce ride height by ½” not 1” (radius not diameter and assuming tyre profile remains the same). Just saying….

Not wishing to be picky either, but a pair of shorter rear shocks from Hagon would probably be cheaper and no need to alter the gearing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or cheaper still,,,,,,,,,, platform boots,,,,,,,,,,?

Adam, I should have said "about" - it's the difference in tyre outer diameters, the 19-in SM is 682, the 18-in AM26 is 640, difference 42mm hence seat drops 21mm. The difference in wheel height is equivalent to about one cog on the gearbox sprocket, hence B5 17T and , C5 18T. And yes, fitting shorter shocks will do it too. The point I mad earlier is there is always a way to lower the seat, these are just two more methods.

Well, my new single seat is on and it has done the trick - plus it looks great. It didn't make a vast difference in height but it is just enough to get rid of that slightly precarious feeling! Went for a wee ride tonight and am a very happy girl now...I know I've made the right choice of bike for me - looking forward to lots of adventures on him.

That's good to hear you came up with a working solution that meets your needs.

The latest pillion footrests have tangs on them to prevent them from rotating. If you find they are positioned too low for your daughter a couple of minutes with a file will allow them to be repositioned higher up.
