I need to remove the seat on my 2008 500 Electra EFI which has our hosts luggage rack & pannier rails fitted - I want to remove the pannier rails as I'm not going to use them. I now need to remove the seat as the seat just will not allow me to get to the bolts that mount the rails. How the hell is the seat mounted to the frame? And please, where are the mounting bolts located? There are 2 small (10mm) nuts & bolts located either side, INSIDE the rear of the standard dual seat fitted to this model. Very hard to get to. It can't be that difficult can it? Also, I took out the suspension unit top bolt & with all the brackets etc. it won't go back through the bloody hole again!! GRRRRR! - I know I shouldn't have taken it out now but at the time it seemed a good idea - Help!

The four bolts that hold the grabrail onto the back of the dual seat also hold the seat on. Remove these [there are nuts behind two] and then lift the rear of the seat and pull it backwards.

There is no grabrail Boxerman...the rack is fitted instead it seems and was like that when I bought the bike. - the four bolts are INSIDE the outer seat pan, the metal bit with the cover & foam over it - I'll try to take some pics & post them........

Sounds like someone has reversed the bolts? two of them [on mine] are screwed into the bracket - no nuts, and the other two have nuts. One of each per side.

The 2 allen bolts with the 10mm nuts are easily accesible but do not free the seat when removed - the 2 bolts either side which are in front of the 2 allen bolts do not seem to be hex bolts either but the heads are obscured - I need some pics of the bike to show you what I mean - I'll try to get some at lunch time - thanks for the reply

Hope this works!

Taken from the back. The nearset [back] one also holds one of the rack mounts. The front one is a captive nut attached to the seat mounting frame.
