I just dropped an Olympus LS-14 PCM recorder into the rhs pannier over the exhaust. Some of the strange 'gargling' noises are due to clipping as record level too high, thumps are the recorder bouncing. This was a 'does it work?' test; next intending to synch sound over the pathetic GoPro mics up front. It's a short excerpt from a 44 minute recording.

'course it sounds good, it's a Bullet being opened up - on the B4009 near Chieveley which is straight although our merikan cousins would call it twisties. I hesitate to point out it was not red-lined, mainly because road was damp and covered in wet leaves. Shopping trip to replenish supplies for cats.

And why are we back on this old chestnut?

well, the debate had reached the stage that we had mostly agreed that this picture was set up as a demonstration for the motorcycle show, London, with a dummy on the bike. What were we thinking?

Firstly, look at all the equipment in the picture. If this was for a show, you would want people to see the bike, so there would be no point in putting all the foreground stuff in which frames the picture, just fan at the back and bike in front would be the best option.

Secondly, looking at the shadows, the tunnel looks well lit, so the problem of the blades not looking still with flash photography falls down as I expect flash was not needed.

Thirdly, the whole setup does not look gleaming and pretty as it would for a show at that time, it just looks like a well used and slightly tatty wind tunnel.

Fourthly, (and my favourite!) I was looking through a copy of Motorcycle Mechanics from November 1968 for the article where Gander & Gray rebuilt a Meteor Minor, when I came across the header for the Magazines 'Technical Topics'. It had the following picture, where the 'dummy' is leaning over, apparently watching an adjustment to the motorcycle.

so... I now feel strongly that the pictures are the wind tunnel at Bristol's works and that the article made reference to it when doing the report on the London motorcycle show.

IN OTHER NEWS... Having mentioned the magazine, anybody wishing to read the Grey Gander's meteor 500 re-build just click here. This article will pop up in Kevin's Corner later today.

Scalyback - have you found anything that allows upload and download od sound recording clips yet? The only one I have found that allows upload (of sound alone) is SoundCloud which is used by musicians a lot. It does however put the tracks into a player. There used to be a recorder in Windoze you could set to "What You Hear" that would record what what playing (CoolEdit still works in Win10 and will do this). You are welcome to extract and mess with my bike clips from SoundCloud and YouTube.

When geocities went down several years ago, I got a free web hosting account with byethost.com. Anything that tinypic won't handle, I just upload to my 'Misc.' pages and point a link to there.

Your out of date, possibly Microsoft browser does not support the audio element.

I had a website of sorts some years ago. It went when I switched ISP and to be honest not worth the effort with so many online hosting services available. I use Flickr rather than tinypic, can't say one is better than the other. YouTube because I shoot video of/for rock bands. Most of the hosting sites however have provisions to protect against piracy, so they don't like direct downloads to save file.
