Hi Terje,
Had exactly the same problem with the team's 500, it would only run on choke, Ok at idle but pops and bangs higher up. Larger jetting 135# cured it. India tends to set there bikes on the weak side for economy, and bear in mind you are running a modified engine without a filter. Q what exhaust are you running? as that will also contribute to any variation to the normal settings. Vince

ps it maybe a quirk of that individual carb as two different carbs may give differing results.

I thought I may provoke a few brickbats from certain directions!
Well now that PO has bought a new carb he really can't do any harm by poking wire through the jets in the old one.... just may work, come on guys where is your sense of adventure - you must have had one when you walked past a Hon/suz/aki/maha and bought a RE!

For anyone who has bought a standard (as opposed to a premier) Mk1 concentric, you can get chrome plated slides for these that won't wear out as quickly as the classic (read: awful) zinc alloy throttle slide/zinc alloy carb body combination. Try Surrey Cycles for these. A.

Hi
Just wanted to shear a video of what we've been talking about in this tread. This is what I made. Take a look and give me som feedback. Like it? Still waiting for the carb to cope with the "hungryness" of the engine. As you can see it has the tape partly blocking the intake. When Amal is here it will be different.

mauri: I don't agree that the 'premier' version helps very much. The basic design is unchanged, so most of the shortcomings I listed are still there. Of course a harder throttle slide is a help. Even more of a help is to buy a Mikuni...... :-)

Think i would have been tempted to lash out on a 130 main, 30 pilot, P2 needle and maybe file of a bit off the slide to suit..

But then i'm a tight arse with cornish blood lines.. A victim of my DNA..

TBH I find this slating of the Amal Mk 1 irrelevant. Technically, yes of course they are dinosaurs, but so are the bikes they get fitted to. Not really sure what the point is - I mean you can fit electronic ignition in place of points, belt drive in place of a wet clutch etc etc. Some of us, including our hosts, quite simply do not want a Micarb or similar, even if it is technically superior, just not interested because we want something in line with the bike and that offers fiddle factor x ten. It may be a left of field non-technical summation, but, that is what we want.

sofiaspin: I think that is the best argument we've had so far.

Riding a Bullet is never about rationality, so of course there is no need to worry about making excessively rational choices when it comes to carbs and the like. If you like the look and the price of the Amal, and are satisfied with the performance, then why not?

Mind you, that won't stop me from saying what I think about them! :-)

Perhaps time to buy a so-called modern bike?! I love my Enfields because they are not perfect. Perfect is dull!
