Hello fine people,

Before anyone asks, my engine has a strengthened bottom end, and is highly tuned.

I have a question for you all.

We all know the Hitchcocks/Newby dry belt driven clutch is very good, the best we can get for our RE's. I can't really afford the price of the dry belt driven clutch.

I see Hitchcocks, now offer the wet clutch version of this kit. Part number 90042B. Has anybody got any experience of the wet clutch version of this kit? Did it suffer from any slip or drag, on a tuned motor?

that is mighty expensive price for a part that uses 60% of the old parts, thats only 40% improvement.

the most problematic parts are still re-used.

you basically paying for an aluminium hub and 4 fiber plates.


for the hichcocks clutch its £302,00 + shipping.



if you buy the newby clutch directly from bob newby thats £466,00 + shipping for a 100% improved part.





thats a price difference of 43%, in which case your better of with the newby clutch if you want value for your money.

Mauri, clutch 90042B is the chain version of the Newby clutch, I think you're confusing it with the 90056 and 90057 alloy clutch that does keep the Indian clutch centre. A.

Buy direct from bob. Save yourself a fair amount. I fitted one to my super meteor and have forgotten about it. Its a great investment. Ed

Mauri in the alloy barrel clutch you've confused for the Newby wet clutch, the alloy barrel clutch uses 4 new none Royal Enfield friction clutch plates, with the Royal Enfield steel flat plates. The Royal enfield dished plates are not used. I know for a fact this clutch is being used in a Royal Enfield 350cc racing bike successfully. So no it is not the same as the standard Royal Enfield clutch.

I take it from your comment you have the dry Newby clutch fitted? If its "fit and forget". Have you had any issues with the plates sticking after a long lay up, being a dry system?

David - I have the chain (wet) version of the Newby clutch in my 612 and it is fantastic!

Great Barry, Is there any slip at full throttle? Or any drag at all? Does it ever have any issues going into neutral when the bike has come to a halt with the engine running? Is yours a 4 speed or 5 speed?

Absolutely no slip, no drag, neutral selects ok and its got a nice light action at the lever. Everything you would like it to be!
Mine is a 5-speed Sixty5 (converted to a 612).

Hi david. Yes i have the dry belt clutch fitted. It has never given me a scrap of trouble in the 2 years its been fitted and the bike is laid up between october and march/april each winter. I am just getting the bike ready for this season and the clutch is still perfect. Ed
