Got my registration number from the DVLA today after some faffing at their end so lets see what happens when I try to start it!

I should not have spoken so soon! This morning I received in the post from the DVLA my original documents AND a letter explaining that they've accidentally issued me with the wrong registration number. So now I have a pile of documents 2" thick, a V5C for the wrong number and no current V5C although they have told me what the number should be. This is the same DVLA that closed all the local offices in the name of efficiency remember. Good thing I didn't get the number plate made yet, eh?

Cor, that's some bad luck. Is the new reg totally different? That would have caught me out. I get the plate ordered online as soon as the V5C arrives. No harm done though eh? Hope you got a nice reg. My last one was a bit naff, but the other was great (RRM 51F) RRRRUM! TTFN Jack

You think that number is bad?. My car is GU11 FKD, amazing what a seagull can do to a car.

The old (ha! if you can call 24 hours before they snatched it away "old") number was TTU 425 H which isn't bad. Apparently Chester 1970 originally. The new is still TTU just a different number. They did something similar when I re-registered a Super Meteor some years back that came in from the Isle of Man; some weeks after the number was issued they wrote asking me to confirm what it was, apparently they'd duplicated it. I kept mine on that occasion! As this is an S2 with the tiny rear numberplate a standard 3 line black and alloy plate won't fit so I can see some small front type letters being applied...

The naff one was MCK 460G, OK if your name is Mick or Irish I suppose. TTU was issued on a J Plate in Cheshire Sept.70 & also on an M plate in Cheshire in Aug.73, then finally in Chester on an R plate in Oct.76. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at DVLA. They appear never to issue the correct year letter for prefix, so anyone with a Glass's Guide can spot an age related plate. I once asked DVLA if they could issue the numbers to match my frame & engine (666) - they ignored me. Worth a shot though. Regarding the rear plate, is it not the same size for all Inters 1967-70? How did the contemporary UK owners/dealers do it? Just bolted up a standard size plate I imagine? I use online plates from Motorshowplates.com. You can choose all sorts of fonts & stuff. Also a text option for the bottom where you can have printed anything you like. I then stick 'em on with clear silicone gasket goo. Saves drilling holes & gives a little suspension too. TTFN Jack

TTU xxx H (which of the two it ends up being!) is bang on for the age of the bike, 1969-70 and issued from Chester. The small number plate was too small even for the States let alone the UK system although very few were sold here so what they intended I don't know. Looks right though!
