There is an interesting point there...

the mudguard is twice the width of the wheel almost, and so a higher camera angle makes it look lower, but I will go check...

Looks better for people sitting on the ground !!!

The front mudguard is actually the same one that was fitted to early Crusaders (1956-8?) as they had 17" wheels and similar, but undamped, forks. This early guard came in 2 versions, the first actually had raised panels pressed into the sides of the guard to take number plates, it was still common practice then to get a local signwriter to paint them on! I'd also recommend the Hitchcocks Indian centre stand mod, it's in the Bullet Accessory Catalogue but fits certain (not all!) Twins too.

Adrian...

Actually, Kevin's front mudguard really is out of alignment.

GM Scalyback, Looks like the problem is caused by the stays being too short!
I see the indents in the guard are not parallel to the forks. Shorter stays would bring it into line, I will measure mine later and let you know. Pity you will not get to the International, will you be back in time to pop along on the Sunday, even on 4 wheels? we are travelling 400 miles to be there, then on to Cornwall after it ! REgards Dick

GA Scalyback, I just measured the front stays on my bike and they are 9.3/4" between centres, try that! I'm sure Kevin will look smarter with shorter stays!!
You going to manage back from France in time for Sunday? Would be pleased to met you. REgards Dick.

Hi Caboose,

I have no idea of when my next trip to the UK will be, probably early September.

Kevin is replacing Thunderbolt in France.

Tornado will be remaining in the UK as my English mount.

Thanks Dick, I will measure mine and see how long they are!

The stays to the back are 10 1/2 inch, which explains the strange position of the mudbath.

Thanks for the info, I will need to either order some 9 3/4 stays, or modify (Bang with a hammer and drill) the longer ones.

That is on the back burner, whilst I check a whole host of other stuff and try to work out why the oil filter cover came loose. It had a good piss on the path before I noticed it!

Tornado dod the same, but that was thread too long which stopped the thing going in at just about the width of the gasket, so just filed a 1/32 off the thread length and bingo. I will wait and see if this happens again, could just have been a little loose.
