Hey PB, my old nail is much the same on cold mornings & has been for years. No great problem, I fire it up & run for a minute or so before donning helmet & gloves. Just ride steady fro the first 4 or 5 miles then crack on. The carb is set up as I like it so I do not sod about with it.
My suggestion is learn to live with it like most folks do :)

Right: having allays Used Iron Head and Ally AVL for my Commuting and Run to Work...My Warming Up Consists of Start Engine..Leave Ticking Over while I put Helmet Gloves etc on then i am Off..And After a Mile Choke off Full Power On..
A Routine that I have Probably Done Since I first Had a Bike.....NEVER ANY PROBS 40,000 Miles Later...With a :ttle Bit Of Common sense this is what RE where built for "To Use"..NO Bike was Ever Desigen to be Left 5 Min to warm up?? AIMHO ;0)...Enjoy it Ride it Use it......

Thanks for that reminder, papasmurf. And of course the oil pump design is totally different on the UCE, anyway. Sorry for adding to the confusion!

Is the cable operated cold start conversion pictured above simply a remote means of moving the enrichening lever or is there more to it ?

Klutz basically, the handlebar mounted lever stays where you put it so you can set it after starting to where the engine will keep running, until fully warmed. Enfield's are not precision made machines, so each bike is different.
I may well fit one of those conversions on my Electra X (ish) because the on or off nature of the current pull push choke is a pain and the engine revs at 1350rpm with choke out, which in my opinion is far too fast to leave it warm up.

like PeteF said, start ride it.

the cable is indeed a remote operation of the choke.(like on modern carb bikes)

the negative i found with it, is that i comes with a right side mag/air lever.

with a left side lever, the operation becomes more natural as you can keep your hand on the throttle.

and its another cable to route through the headlamp casing.

hitting the lever with your leg while moving the bike around, engine running is one problem solved.

on modern carb bikes you will find the choke lever on the left side for that reason.

Mauri left hand levers are available but whether our hosts do them I don't know.

papersmurf, did you realise there is two positions on the cv choke, full out and slowly push in you will find second position,my dealer enlightened me.

sa(lincs) there are only two positions on the choke on my Electra X (ish). Fully out or fully in. There is no mid position.

MY 2006 4 SPEED. R/H GEARBOX KICK ONLY MODEL IS SIMILAR.. IF YOU USE THE CHOKE IT WONT GO, IF YOU TOUCH THE THROTTLE IT WONT GO.

I TURN IN THE TICKOVER SCREW 1 FULL TURN, TAKE 8-10 KICKS WITH THE IGNITION ON AND DECOMPRESSOR FULLY IN, THEN ONE GOOD KICK GETS HER GOING FINE NORMALLY.. LET HER WARM UP ON THE STAND FOR A MINUTE THEN REDUCE TICKOVER.
