Wonder if anyone can help?...

I've recently had some wires cut (by some mindless wan***s) on my royal enfield electra efi and am just wondering if the bike should start without the neutral indicator switch connected?

The neutral switch wire was one of the wires cut and but I don't know if this would stop the bike from starting? The engine light comes on and goes off as normal so therefore doesn't display an error code.


The other wires cut were 3 yellow wires coming from the gear housing (?) On the lower right of the bike, all housed in 1 black tubing going to underneath the front of the seat. Also, a green and white wire next to them.

I have managed to solder all the wires back together but my problem is that it was guess work as to which yellow wire to connect to another yellow wire... If that makes sense?! I tried to match them up by the length of them either side of the cut but it was all guess work.

Does it matter if I get it wrong with these yellow wires?

They are from the three phase generator. I guess they all pass through a rectifier so may not be a problem if crossed over.



If your lights get dim of the leccy fails, then I was wrong.

Neutral switch only lights the green lamp in the speedo. Nothing to do with any other system

If the neutral switch is cut off pulling the clutch lever in will most likely allow it to start the three yellow wires are most likely from the alternator and generally it does not matter which way they are connected but beware they are the main power source for the electrics you need a really good connexion there the green and white I am unsure of I can not see one on the diagram I have good luck I hope more help is on its way

The green (and white?) wire may be the Magneto crank sensor wire.



It's going to need that connected to run.



Other green or green black wires are indicators, front brake switch to tail lamp, headlamp and possibly side stand cut off. But i'm guessing it's the Magneto sensor.

Skip that I missed a wire, seems the neutral does go to the control unit as well, so same as Les says above!

What scroat would cut the wires on an Enfield?

There are many scroats around here (north london) so it's more a question of which one unfortunately!

A quick update...

I replaced the switch this arvo but unfortunately the bike still won't start. Interestingly I'm getting no neutral light at all but I'm fairly confident that all the connections Are good and secure .. Any ideas?

Someone has mentioned it could be a defective battery but It should still get a neutral light if the engine light comes on shouldn't I?

I don't get to ride my bike as much as I would like and this has led to the battery deteriorating (and being replaced ) a couple of times now so I don't really have much luck with the electric start but the kick start has been doing the job well. After this latest episode though it just makes a tiny effort at starting with a little noise but never leads me to believe that it will start.

If I hold the clutch in the kick lever just kicks through without any resistance so that's a no go for starting that way.

I've currently got my battery on charge and it looks like I'm going to have to call a garage out tomorrow to take it away and repair. .. SO FRUSTRATING!

If you have repaired all the obvious damage have you checked the fuses also don't forget the kill switch and is the side stand down, when the battery is charged you could check if you are getting a spark at the plug which I think would be a good place to start before barking up the wrong tree

You only pull the clutch lever for electric start,, well generally.. (I Know some peoples bikes are wired differently)..

But you def don't pull the clutch when kick starting.. It disengages drive from the engine to the gear box, so the kickstart has no drive from the gearbox to the engine,,

If you understand this then nod your head..
