Come on Thack you are obviously getting old - open pipes and flat spots - that is the joy of being in denial of advancing years as you rip it up a bit and push the performance, which the micarb is not fit for purpose. I threw mine away at the first opportunity. The flat spot is irritating but other than that it works 'perfectly' looks good and the overall package sounds good. Each to their own.

Hah! Too true! "Got" old, not "getting" old. :-)

I'm a great believer is stealth biking - ride like you're invisible, whisper past so discreetly you're gone before they register you, like a soft breeze.

Hello

I have fitted the Hitchcocks pressure relief valve, as I believe that is what causes the issue with the worm drive stripping its gear teeth
Having read that the lube oil system operates at very low pressure, I think having the capacity to circulate a little more oil will not do any harm.
And I do not intend revving it from cold either.
Also I read that the scavenging pump does not always return the oil to the oil tank efficiently enough, and the higher capacity pump improves this.
Yes a roller bearing big end would be nice, but I am only looking to improve the reliability at the moment.
I wanted the Carb conversion as the Mikcarb is set up to pass the emissions regulations and I'm sure that. A slightly larger freer breathing carb will improve rideability.
I like the Amal as it looks great!

I have fitted a one tooth larger gearbox sprocket, the Hitchcocks pressure relief system, the Hitchcocks engine breather kit.
I am going to fit the Oil pumps , as it is a cheap mod and I believe worthwhile!
I have a slightly louder silencer, which was fitted when I bought the bike.

I also have a Harley Davidson which has very loud exhausts , the bullet will never be as loud as this !

Obviously to try and get a 1955 engine design to pass modern emissions there have been compromises in the Carb and Exhaust design, I believe that the bike will be much nicer with a different Carb and exhaust,.

I'm not looking to build a bike that has massive top end power, but one that will ride nicely around the country lanes and the hills where I live in Wales

Mine is a trials bullet not a cafe racer !

I like the bike a lot, and it's fun to ride , and I'm not really worried about fuel consumption so losing a few more MPG does not really bother me at all. And I enjoy tinkering with it and carrying out modifications as much as riding it to be honest !

The advantage of the Hitchcocks pressure relief valve is when the big end fails and the whitemetal blocks the rockers, instead of stalling the scavenge pump it won't strip the spindle, which is no big expense when you have to rebuild the motor anyway
