Patrick, just take it down to the Island, some pretty clued up boys in the pits there, I'm sure they could work it out, if they could just understand points ignition.

Hi Patrick. Water in the fuel? Check for even the smallest bead of water in the bottom of the float bowl, MK 1 Concentrics have the ends of their main jets very close to the bottom of the float chamber and the smallest amount of water will cause what you describe - the engine will start and run on the pilot circuit, which draws fuel from a higher point, but when you open the throttle, the water has the main jet blocked and the engine will splutter and stop. Cheers, Paul.

Hey Norm
Good idea maybe thay could pull my motor out and put a Ducati 1199 Panigale S motor in as a replacement???
There was no water in the fuel, drained tank and cleaned Carby, all good there. Will try a few more things nxt week.

Cheers all

Patrick.

Patrick that sounds like a great idea, but I'm sure the next problem you would have is in the braking department

Hi it must be Crusader running bad month I can only start mine when its cold and I cant stop anywhere as it will not go again when hot we have narrowed it down to Ignition timing which is Impossible to get right and can only be set in Gnats whiskers and a worn out auto advance mechanism. and where are we going to find a new one of those kids? in the Unobtainable department in that good old shop on the moon, so electronic it must go for useability and protection of my sanity tried everything else and I mean the whole lot . Like yours was running good all of last year and now its got Gremlins.and they aint shifting
Best of luck to you and both of us

Forget about it being timing, these are Enfields not some high tech machine

Patrick make shure the breather hole in the petrol cap is clear if it has one it sounds like a petrol problem

Enfields are enfields all engines must be timed correctly for the spark to happen at exactly the right moment otherwise no go dosent matter what engine it is exept Diesels of course but as Mr Scott says "Ye canny change the laws of physics" even if you are working on an Enfield no Bang no go simples and Im not getting a bang at the right moment so obviousy a timing is to blame or it would work

Patrick. You've just fitted a new Mk1 Concentric - I wonder....
I had endless problems on my 1996 500 when I fitted a new concentric (Mk2 but the principle is the same). It idles well but got worse as the throttle was openeed - coughed, missed then died, spluttered as yours seems to do. I too thought it was electrical - expensive. Then I thought it was cams (don't ask). Then I thought it was the jets (bought and tested many).

Then, on the BritBike website, in an Amal tuning guide, I found this statement:
"Crisply open the throttle. If the motorcycle stumbles, has a rhythmic misfire, but slowly picks up rpm, the Air/Fuel mixture is too rich. Install a Slide with a higher number (leaner).
— As above, if the motorcycle spits, has an erratic misfire or just stops running, only to pick back up again as the Slide is closed, the Air/Fuel mixture is too lean. Install a Slide with a lower number (richer)".
That was a breathe of fresh air. I had bought the carb from our hosts with the standard 3.0 throttle slide fitted. So I changed the slide to a 2.5. Instant success!!!
So, are you sure the slide is correct?

Top draw, the engine starts and runs , proves the timing is not the problem
