Tom I'm quite surprised at the volume of air coming out of these little breathers so that is a good sign, see how it goes out on the road

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was, at the amount of heat coming out of this hose

Tom,you asked about fitting SM crank to Meteor cases, apparently yes it's possible with
only one combination of Twin conrod. The article by a US dealer is over on the interceptor yahoo forum under files .
cheers

Colin, so far Ants Meteor seems pretty oil tight, still a slight weep from between the barrels but I can't fix that without pulling the barrels and that isn't going to happen. My only concern at the moment is if the plastic tube breathers off the head steady studs will melt, gets pretty hot up there

Norm you may be onto something there,my bike has only 2 of those studs,
and both on top of the inlet rockers. What with all the Twins coming on line
in the club you may have dobbed yourself in for lots of shed time, cheers

Norm, perhaps you could fit some more resilient tubing - stainless braided PTFE would manage, provided none of bends that the current plactic tubing has to fit are too tight. Otherwise reinforced nitrile rubber oil hose, check the mfr's temperature ratings. A.

Adrian, problem is it is very tight up in there once the tank goes on. Only other option would be to make them offset in towards the frame by 1/4inch and it would be good. I have also had to run the 2 rear ones forward and then back in through the head steady. Works well just not sure about the heat, but they sure get some of the heat away from the head

Thanks for response re cranks Colin...

I will be looking at head venting options....

Was thinking maybe on the lines of steel or copper pipe to initially take gasses away from the immediate head area and then into a braided hose further away from the heat source..

Tom, let me just say as someone who has used a 1953 Meteor hard for 20 years including 2 up camping, you won't break the crank. Failure of the rods is more likely (the engine is quite long stroke,) but really only an issue with prolonged over-revving such as you might find in drag racing. if you are "bimbling" (great word for our hobby!) you have no worries. So just get on and enjoy it!
