Few weeks ago I queried on Twin tappet guides removal.
Some solid help offered by our regulars, including
mention of Mr H's extractor tool rental. Being overseas
this option was not feasible so fabricated a mini tool
with a threaded 11/16 nut etc. and with c/case cooking
on a small hot plate was able to remove two of them OK
However, the remaining two simply crumbled like stale cake
and the threaded portion broke off more or less level
with the case. Despite immense help from many lads here,
'tis unlikely I will use these '50 c/cases again with their
troublesome oil way configurations. mMrcifully Mr H
has new tappet bodies. One can speculate though on two things;
1) Would the tappet guides still function with only the
body part left in the case,ie 1" missing of the approx 2 1/2"
total length. tappet of course undamaged. 2) Given that
knocking them out from the bottom is nigh impossible with
the poor punch angle. how would you take them out if this
was your only C/case option? As I mentioned before, was starting
all over with a post '55 fine set of cases, so not desparate yet!

Two extraction options, both need heat:


1: Eaziout, rotate and pull. Check tappet-guide OD in case O/size is needed?


2: Weld an extend bolt onto the broken stub; slide hammer.

Tim, the Eazyout would probably only crumble it
further as these guides are really brittle as you
know..and the tappet itself is still stuck in the
guide protrubing one inch. However, this very
protrustion would give ample material to weld a
slide hammer to should one wish to salvage the
crank cases later. Thanxs

Congratulations on your Googling skills but that is for lndian Bullets not Twins. It was explained earlier that our Hosts do rent this tool but it would be nice to complete the set. REgards, Mark
