It starts straight away and ticks over at 650rpm, I am also an engineer with decades of experience.
SOMEONE must have quantified the problems. I can't believe no-one knows. Or that the factory did not make some alterations when the problems became apparent.
How did they get type approval for the UK for one thing, and why no recalls.

Papa big end failures happened from around 10,000ks, some did better, just forget about it, get on and ride it and see how you go, no point in stressing about it, it is what it is. As for wanting a recall, you are dealing with Indians, so you should understand what that means

It doesn't matter who I am dealing with, both faults are potentially deadly. The manufacturers not dealing with it over the entire production run is just not good enough.
I note that there was a major recall of 2009 built Enfield's but that was for the current model.

Norm what are you looking at cost wise to make these bikes more reliable ie remove sprag fit British mains and big ends and possibly upgrade the oil pump(if you can find someone to do it if you are not an engineer)And is it worth doing?

A good thing about the newer UCE engine is that the sprag can be removed and refitted in well under an hour of labour. Sadly, the replacement part costs a fair bit though. I beleieve (and Norm will no doubt give exact timings) the Electra engine took a fair bit longer to remove the sprag, even to the experienced hand...

A friend at the bike club (any make of bike) has an Enfield with an 800cc Suzuki engine in it (I think from a DR800) And Its totally reliable but looks at first glance just like any other Royal Enfield!And seems to prefer it to his other Enfield which has apparently had the internal bells and whistles done to its internals its a bit like giving in though!

Ever since my wife had a Suzuki 650 Savage cruiser, I fancied fitting the engine into an Enfield frame. So far havn`t found an engine or a scrap bike to take one from. Now that was a nice perky, smooth engine!

Netts, Google "Manki" in Google images. A guy from the RealClassic website built a Savage engine into a Norton frame and the results are brilliant. (name comes from MANx and suzuKI.) Don't google "mankini" or you'll get a nasty shock! REgards, Mark
