Hi all, Canada calling. I am in the process of rebuilding the motor of my 1959 Constellation and have a question about how close to the primary chain does the clutch cable sit when it is inserted through the top of the inner clutch housing? Many thanks.

Hi Percy! First, of the 2 access holes in the top of the primary chaincase, use the one that lines up best and take the alternator pigtail (wiring) out of the other. The cable always seems to sit very close to the chain but in practice it works fine and they don't seem to touch. You may find the clutch action tricky to get just right but do persevere as when it works it's really sweet. One thing is different from a non-scissors though, it'll be a bit on/off but you soon get used to it. Post some pics of the bike when you can? I have a 1959 Connie built from bits and have just acquired a 1958 basket case, this would be the one with the TT carb if anyone has one as mine is missing?

Hi Mark, many thanks for the welcome reply. Constellations are a rare bird in this area, so I am on a steep learning curve. I found mine as a basket case, and confirmed with the R.E.O.C. that the frame and engine numbers match, but that the gearbox is not the original - but it is complete! Mine is one of 10 imported into Canada in 1959, 9 went to Montreal and 1 to Toronto. No indication of which bikes were shipped to which city, however, there is an anomaly on mine, the frame, swing arm, seat support are all chromed, plus the spokes and cylinder head bolts are chromed also. I have posted a question on the Canadian vintage motorcycle group monthly magazine asking if anyone remembers it, so we will see what transpires. I did think it might have been a show model, but...not so. Good progress so far, cylinders bored to 60 over, crank is being ground 20 over (or is that under), parts being assembled thanks to Hitchcock's, when there is some significant progress I will post a picture. Best of luck with your carb search. Thanks again for the help.Percyboy.
