Back in about 1936-37, Meccano sent out a letter in which their new Dublo (OO or double o) railway system would be scaled at 4mm to the foot.

That was before the second world war!

P.S. Nice one Jones43!

There's now a little 'out-source' 5 year old Indian kid in tears, because you didn't like the way he taped the wire joints up.

How could you?

Wrong in so many different but subtle ways. T reg it was and in 1985 a relatively late model car to be bought for 100 quid. We sold it for about 50 quid more which is about what we spent less labour and were glad to see the back of it.

fuel tank leak on New 535 GT.
This has rotted some of the resonating elimination rubbers on the cylinder head,i have just been informed by the bike shop that the repairs have been done to the tank on my bike but now they have found when checking the bike out before returning it that both head light & tail light bulbs were blown, has anyone else had these problems either bulbs/electrical or fuel tank leaks,or any other issues ? I have been advised that these bikes should be recalled for the fuel tank leak as there have been others, they think the apparent cause is vibration.I did not expect this kind of problem so Soon.

Hi Lewis, what is you experience with Enfields, why would you not expect problems this soon, they are made in India and we all know what that means

Norm the last Enfield I had was the Original 25 GT in the 60's I had no problems with it at all & it was great & fast for a 250 in those days, but that was when we built them.
I just fancied another one to rekindle the memories of the 60's, I have not bought one built by Indians previously because of the poor reputation & build quality, but now being in 2014 & reading the press reviews on the 535 GT I thought they had got it right with this one which they have in some ways but unfortunately the right bit is just in the styling & handling, seems now the there still the reliability issue as with other previous models & then theres the poor performance & overhaul finish in some parts.
its more like a café plodder than café racer which is a real pitty because the bike gives a nice ride & its comfortable.

Lewis and Jones43 – there are a few quality issues with the new bike but on the whole I'd say the quality is good. It's not as good as the best Japanese and German manufacturers but it's a whole heap better than it used to be. It still has if you look at the castings and detailing some real budget elements to it. Remember the bike is 215,000 Rupees in India. Which is about £2,100. You then have to get the bike here and pay Import Duty and VAT + shipping and insurance. Which might bring it up to £3,800 landed at the port. They are $6000 in the USA. You could say the bike is over priced here. As far as comments about "the Indians" go - the name is owned by Eicher Motors are very large engineering company and have joint ventures with Polaris and Volvo. They currently making about 25,000 bikes a month and are on track to hit 280,000 this year – which is their target. They are very far from being an old ex-colonial hammer and spanner outfit. Mine has now done 3000 miles so we'll see how we get on with the engine gearbox and other bits and pieces. So far it's had a blown fuse and a puncture. Neither of which could be said to be quality issues on the part of Eicher. If you want to find out more then www.royalenfield535gt.com should tell you more. Kind regards, Stephen
