The loud ticking/clicking from the top end could be a valve seat coming loose. This would cause very rough running and eventually stop the engine altogether if it actually dropped out.My 2008 iron barrel Bullet has had both seats replaced because of this. The exhaust seat dropped down far enough to stop the engine but did no real damage and was replaced. Some time later the inlet seat started to "tick".Understanding what was wrong through the previous experience I had it fixed before it could get any worse. All's been well ever since.Let us know what you find.Cheers Dave P.

found out what the ticking was - valve stem cap loose. pulled the head and found that there is alot of carbon build up and there are small pieces of the intake valve gone (either broke off or burned?) the exhaust valve doesn't look too bad. the top of the piston has alot of carbon build up, but the cylinder walls look and feel smooth. how do I get that crud off the piston? should I remove the cylinder hone and put new rings on? looks like the head needs to go to the machine shop for valves and possibly seats. NO WAY this bike had 1400 miles - looks like I got taken.
