Wish could help. I have the original registration book for my 1950 Model G and the frame and engine numbers are the same and just five numbers 162**

Frame number on the chain case side of the front frame down tube. Engine number on the chain case side of the crank case.

SAboy, I don't think the P is an original Enfield stamping. Would I be right in thinking that you're in South Africa? Could the P have been applied when the bike was imported or by a user there? The only way to be completely sure is to ask the Royal Enfield Owners Club who have the records but I may be able to ask unofficially...

I too have a Model G, from 1953. No "P" in the frame or engine numbers here. Only G and five digits, like G12345. Frame and engine have the same number.

Just checked with my expert, the P is not part of the frame number and wasn't stamped by Redditch.

Thank you so much guys for your info , its just really puzzling to me , that the "P" is there , and to boot its not that it was stamped , its raized like the rest of the numbers , i have no idea what it could mean , but thanks for giving it a shot .

Why didn't you say so?! It's a casting number and if so, all G's will have it! Where and which side of the headstock is it on? I assume you are looking at the headstock and by "side" I mean left or right as if you were sitting on the bike. The frame number should be stamped on the left side (pretty sure that's right for a G) and may well be quite faint, it could be covered by paint.
