Chris, have fun with that grease, I hate cleaning that stuff out of the boxes, oil is so much easier

Hello CHRIS D----------- the boiling water might not actually part the gasket from the casing as such but softens it enough that you can get a thin scraper underneath and make a start..........I use old industrial power hacksaw or bandsaw blading ( approx. 2" deep with a shallow-angled cutting edge, plus various other "Instruments" as illustrated..........................................................................................................................Image

I usually put a small bead of silicone on the outer cover before I put it back on, I find I have too many problems using a gasket because there is a very thin section at the bottom that can often slip out or tear if you get one of the screws a fraction off line. The important thing to check if you aren't using a gasket is that the layshaft isn't binding up.All depends on how much clearance there is on the layshaft thrust washer that fits inside the kickstart shaft. Fit the end cover and if it fits home without and pressure or gap where the gasket should be it should be fine
