Mike I know you are trying to be helpful but...classic policies do not have any interest in accrued NCBs, thankfully, hence SORN is irrelevant. My Velo Venom Clubman and 'Beam S8 are hence not affected. For the Harry Enfield, RH Insurance offered a 3000 mile capped policy as they realise it is a classic bike clothed in a modern registration. Yes, it makes a difference for cars. But for me, SORN is a sensible option on the Harry. A lot of my mates use Sorn for those October to March months, and it does not make any difference. I will stick to my plan, and maybe keep the Velo thumping over the winter.

Can anyone enlighten an expat
out here in the colonies exactly
what SCORN means, or rather why
it seems so crucial in registering
a dormant 'bike again in the UK?
Someone was kind enough on here to
decipher the letters, but not why
it is so prevalent in every vintage
'bike ad I read. Thanxs

Gordon, it is basically a way for the 'powers that be' to catch out those who are not constantly on their guard and make money from them. Only the other day I received a threatening 'last chance' letter [I never received a normal reminder, but you can't expect one apparently] to tell me if I didn't act now my CB500T might be impounded or even crushed - there would be some ugly scenes here if anybody tried it, followed by me being banged up for a long time, but that is how they provoke law abiding citizens into becoming 'criminals'.
I was given a reference number and a phone number for an automated means of putting thins right - no chance of telling a Human being that I never got the normal reminder in the first place. Everybody is assumed to be a would be villain and treated as such in more and more ways, just because of a rotten few, who are the ones that need to be sorted out properly and give the rest of us less stress and worry.

far Big Brother had infilterated
over there. Mercifully here we
have'nt reached that extremity,
despite the provincial government's
monopoly on vehicle insurance
know as ICBC, which has no MOT
but a stringent AirCar applicable
to cars only, insomuch most carbed
motor qwner's sweat blood to lean
the readings somewhat. Although you
need a perfuntory independent 'bike
inspection if you have a barn find
without papers. there is no MOT test
if you have current papers. Road tax
and appropiare insurance is can be
paid 3, 6 or 12 month together, or
monthly deduction from your bank.
Any schmutz and his dog can be a
ICBC agent, and they pile up commisions
from selling you more insurance than
you need. Have empathy with your 'final
notice; as got the same yesterday for
a new road toll on a major freeway bridge.
Of course never got the first, govt's
use mafia tricks universally. Said
brigde local user's now use the clogged
alternative peripheral roads to evade
the toll, so govt. loses out anyway, well
in this particular example. Meanwhile
you lads over there, join MAG before
you lose privilege rightfully your's

Alan, I always thought anything with an engine (car,motorcycle etc)
wasn't covered on house insurance even if it was itemised and had to be insured separately.

I just declared a "Total Value" for garage contents in the beginning but it's time now to re-appraise things...Thanks for that "Heads-up".......Haven't seen you or Mr. Spitting Bull this year---- where've you lads been then ??

Hi guys------- Yes, that link from PAULK shows our good friends at MAG getting "Stuck-in" with the Govmnt. and highlighting what would have been a major infringement of our Civil Liberty}--- ie The Continuous Insurance Law (AS ORIGINALLY PROPOSED),... would have been forcing you to take on an insurance that you neither needed or wanted }---How come ??, well because you had declared the vehicle to be "Off Road" yet they were expecting you to keep it insured !! To what end ?? The bike is not going to be on the Queen's Highway (you've just said so--OFFICIALLY !!) so it doesn't need to be covered....HOO-Ray for ALL these watchdog groups I say !! ( But not quite as entertaining as dear old Ester Ransten and That's Life !!.. eh ?? )...........
