Hi,
If you email me the frame number I might be able to work out it's age.
Just sold my WDCO. Gave away several large boxes of spare engines etc.

cheers
Paul.

I've actually been through the Registration process when I Registered my Lightning. It's fairly straight forward if done in the right order (I did it in the completely wrong order and it took me 3 months to complete!). So, I'm in a position to give you a hand.

Paul, thank you but I have had the year confirmed as 1945. do you have any spares left? I am missing the air filter off the carb and the blackout hood of the headlamp, otherwise it is complete.

Barry, any help you can give me regards registration would be appreciated, save me doing it all in the wrong order!

Right. Here's the right order for Registering a bike with the DVLA. 1: Get a dating certificate from the Royal Enfield Owners Club. This is a free service for members. If you're not a member, there is a charge. Details are available on the REOC website. Here's a handy hint. Although rubbings of the frame and engine No are required, I took photos of both and attached the rubbings to them. 2: Go to the DVLA website and request a Registration Pack. It's free. You'll be sent a pack which includes; Registering a new vehicle and Registering a used (or imported) vehicle. You'd be filling in the used vehicle form. Once you have both the Dating Certificate and the DVLA pack in your hands, it's time to move onto 3: MOT the machine. I suggest trailering the bike to the MOT Station. You can ride it if it's insured and the MOT is pre-booked, but I had a heap of insurance aggro (Long story). 4: Once you have the MOT Certificate in your hands, insure the bike and get a cover note. 5: Fill in the remaining paperwork in the Registration Pack and send direct to Swansea (I was told this by the Exeter office. The paperwork says; Send to Exeter. Exeter only sends it unopened to Swansea. My Lightning has a Carmarthan Registration number). 6: Wait. There may be a request to take the bike to the Exeter Office. This leads me to 7: The Exeter Office wants to see the bike to check the engine and frame numbers (In truth, they only wanted to see the speedo on my Lightning to ensure that it was calibrated for MPH). The bike must be trailered for this trip. The V5 and number plate certificate will follow a couple of days later. The rest is obvious.

Thamk you Barry Q, will start the ball rolling. Do you think I will still need an MOT now that pre 65 bikes are exempt?

Off the top of my head, it's pre 1960 bikes that don't need an MOT. Your Enfield certainly qualifies. However, It was a requirement on the Registration forms. Having said that, I registered my Enfield before the rules changed. It still may be a requirement for a first Registration (To ensure the bike is road worthy to start with). Personally, I'd prepare the bike for an MOT, but check the documentation in the Registration Pack to see if it's still a requirement.

Oh, I almost forgot. Since the bike is over 10 years old, an MSVA test is not required.

Sorry Yvonne

it can be confusing, my first three attempts to post a picture all failed.

I think you may have copied the web page address instead of the next line down,
usually starts with < a ref=> or similar. Good luck with next try!
