From your description, especially not knowing if the engine turns over too and the comments above I'd say unless it's practically being given away don't bother. To restore to running useable condition you'll be looking at, at least the value of the bike, likely more. If you want a nice small starter restoration project with good backup, parts availability and such, look at bsa bantams, lots to choose from on eBay

Hehe, yes it's going to be up hill all the way, what I'm hoping to do is sort all the mechanical stuff and worry about cosmetics later, left where she was, she won't get any better...

Gordon Benett (or insert expletive of choice here!) that is completely cattle trucked (rhyming slang there!) and really not worth it. And yes, I do know what I'm saying, see my Ebay Bullet rebuild in The Royal Enfield Magazine at greenlane.biz However, if I'm brave enough to write up my pile of rust you can too! REgards,Mark

Tim - The tone of your last posting suggests that you have already bought the thing ? You will be aware of my opinion - based on your description - from my first reply, and now it seems that four other contributors agree with me....Having now seen the pic. I am convinced the general concensus is the right one.....! Wake up and smell the stale petrol.....and put it back where you dragged it from ! (If you enjoy soul searching/self loathing/pain & discomfort, not to mention a severely disfigured bank account, feel free to ignore all of the above). By the way, it may be a 1946 bike, but according to my records that PVL registration is from 1960 (Lincolnshire). That probably means it was on the road for as little as just one year - surely that will tell you something ?

I exhumed her just to take a better look, where she was buried before, you really couldn't see anything other than the tank!

I'm not taking this on to make money, in fact no deal has yet been struck as it stands, I've already got the workshop manual to hand, and have started the slow process of cleaning all the bolts up and lubricating them.

I should point out that the registration isn't a PVL number, and this little lady has a buff log book and V5c so there is no worries from the paperwork front.

So far I am just listing all the parts I'll need to get the basics up and running, anything further is a bonus!

Hi guys and a big HELLO to RUFFGEEZER !!! I like the cut of your jib, Sir !!--------Come on fellas, where's your sense of adventure ??------ I thought you were/are first and foremost --MOTORCYCLISTS (in the fullest and truest sense of the word ???)..................And that means we are individuals, "free radicals", entrepreneurial in our outlook on life, and take care of our own when the need arises.. ..........YES, of course it won't make any money---so wot ??......... YES, he'll have to do almost ALL the work required himself to get it happening and within a budget----when did that last put you off owning your Bullet??..............YES, at the end he'll have just another small bike... BUT.it'll be HIS bike that HE rescued.. And it will be HIS vision that will be encapsulated forever in an Enfield Flying Flea.......Lads, have you all forgotten that great feeling of excitement, like at the start of an ADVENTURE with your very first resto. job ?? So hows about we turn all this doom & Gloom on its' head and offer RUFFGEEZER ( love that handle !!) all the practical help we can, eh ?? .............................. OK, we can't PHYSICALLY help but we all have contacts, techniques acquired, favourite products, etc....so can point him in a general direction....I'll start the ball rolling by saying this }---- Forget ANY ideas of "Restoring to a former glory" because that WILL bankrupt you and no mistake...Try instead for a "Clean & useable" bike with NO CHROMING AT ALL....which means spray (or brush) painting, which is easy for you to do (or learn)............. I use this }-------------------- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wurth-German- ... icles_Othe ---------------------------- in place of any chrome finish and it comes out like this}----------------------------------------------- Image ----------------------------- So, GO FOR IT MATEY and lets see if we can do this on a shoestring at the same time ???
