Morning all, I've just bought a 2008 Enfield Bullet 500ES Deluxe. Once the jetted was sorted its fantastic to ride, I've only had it a couple of days and the weather has been atrocious so not had much opportunity to ride it yet.

Problems already though I'm afraid.

The main & dipped beams don't work but the pilot lights do. The 3 position switch on the rhs only operates the parking lights, the next positions do nothing. Consequently the 2position switch on the Lhs does nothing either.

Items of note which may or may not be related.
The neutral light seems be wired into the lighting circuit as it lights permanently when the lights are on and seemingly had nothing to with the neutral position.

Secondly there is 1 loose blue wire in the Lhs tool box. I cannot see anywhere missing a wire?
I'll take photo and add this on later on.

Any help greatly received, electrics are not my string point at all. I do not understand voltage, currents etc, I don't own a multimeter either.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, don't know if a 2008 model is the same as mine? I bought a 2000 500 Bullet DL and my dip and main beam didn't work either. Until I remembered that the engine has to be running to work the lights, as they are powered direct from the alternator. This was after I looked at the bulb connectors - not a waste of time in the end, as the connectors were a bit loose anyway.
Apologies if you knew this anyway, but it's something I used to know and had completely forgotten.

as posted above , there is an AC regulator mounted under rhe seat , this is used to feed the h/lamp and is a common failure point , if you go to tech notes / charging /bullet1999 on you will see that you test this at 2 points with an ac/dc multimeter , 30 odd volts AC from the altenator and about 14v DC goint to the lights , this is only a 5 min test and can save you a lot of work later on fault finding

Hi thanks for the replies.
WannaB the lights don't work with the engine running either, nice thought though!

Eddie & Alan, would my ammeter be showing a reading if the rectifier was at fault?

Thanks
