If it's any help the E/S switchgear of that period seems to be a clone of the late 90's Suzuki stuff. There might be some after-market goodies there.

Using the throttle drum off a generic Q/A throttle might work if:

a) the larger cam physically fits inside the housing, and:

b) the cable still lines up OK, any sharp bends will make it harder to use and lose any advantage, as well as doing the throttle cable no good.

The alternative would involve a separate twist grip assembly and a re-think of the switch gear.
