wanted Engine for 1963 ContinentalGT in any condition

There wasn't a Continental GT in 1963, can you clarify what it is you're trying to do? Oh, and bear in mind, some very early GTs didn't have the GT prefix on the engine number, I had one like this myself, verified by the REOC.

I got several boxes of parts which I was informed was a 63 continental delux ???

frame number 23189 engine number CL 14414
I suspect I have bought the proverbial Pig-in-a-poke, if you know the expression
Fortunately the money was not too big, since I can see already that there are quite a few parts missing I thought I would take the lazy way out and find a complete engine.
All advice will be welcome ,I an a complete novice.

i do have a spare GT engine but I need it should my own ever fail , I also have a lot of spares if you decide to rebuild yours (which maybe is a super 5) let me know what parts you need for the engine , the number should start GT (or at least the two I have do) they are a great little bike which got a bad reputation as 17 year olds tried to do 100mph with no maintenance , the result many a disaster/engine gearbox fails . now adays treated with care and respect a rare sight

Rex, it sounds like you have a lot on your hands! I have some info that may help to roughly date those numbers, I'll look it up later. I have a 1966 Continental GT (it's my wife's really but I do the spannering!)

thanks that it reassuring to hear, I have been told the gear box was bad but your comment makes sense. Once I figure where to start I may call you for parts but first I must establish what exactly I've got. I sent off for membership of the Royal Enfield Club I presume they are the people to confirm age, model etc.

It's a good idea to join the REOC, not expensive and lots of help available. In the meantime you could get some info on the bits you have from Graham Scarth who is REOC Chairman and will do a quick look at the records for you, email them to [email protected] This is just a "heads up" service to identify what you have, not an official dating certificate for registration purposes.

Continental and Continental GT are 2 different models. While there was a Continental in 1963 there was not a Continental GT which is what Rex was told , mistakenly, that he had.
