Hi Bear, I sympathise greatly.
I had a very hard and slightly scary time with my first right gear change. Kept jamming the brake down to change gear, then changing up instead of down, or just doing a clutchless gear change when all I wanted to do was brake.
I had all of that. got a mile, went back to the dealer, had a coffee started out again, got home...
If you are ok with selling the bullet then fine, but if you would rather keep it, find a quiet road near to you, and just go slow and practice.
It took me quite a few sessions, but I have no problems now, and just being able to ride such an 'interesting' arrangement is a serious bonus to the thrill of riding a bullet.
I'm trying to say from experience, yeah, it's really hard to start with, and I did consider selling the bike, but I managed it in the end. Now it is almost as automatic as riding anything else.

My Enfield is one-up RHS
The Cub is one-down RHS
The Yam is one-down LHS
No problem, just takes a bit of practice.

Peter I had the same, Electra right shift, one down, Inter right shift, one up, and Honda left shift, one down. One day I rode the three of them, can't remember why but it was interesting

Sorry to hear it's up for sale bear and, like others here, I can only say that a right-hand shift is weird at first but you get used to it. Like PeteF my Bullet is RHS one up, my T'bird is RHS one down and my Panhead LHS one up. After a while it really is possible to go from one to the other(s) without giving it a thought.
Of course, with this one sold you could always buy a Bullet with left-hand shift! Good luck and keep in touch.

Don't know if you caught my post from a week or so ago, but the tale of learning my 1994 bullet is in the following link.
I so nearly sold it again, had a close call too, but now, riding my bullet and doing it well feels great.

just looked at your piece on your bike, ill try and get a little more practice or a lot more i should say hahaha,
think ill have to get someone to set carb up correctly as well,as it feels like its not running correct,
bike starts easier now ,but doesnt sound like its running correct,
also a mirror would help to see whats comming behind me when on road.
thanks for info, and to all enfield owners who suggested a few things,
cheers.

Bear sell the 92bullet and buy a new classic 500 its a lovely bike to ride life's to short to be stuffing around bikes are fun to ride but you don't want to get killed doing it, I took the classic for a test ride and traded my old bullet in right there and then and just love it
