1913 Royal Enfield
BUT the killer part of the description has to be,
"...the former owner replaced the ornamental front wheel brake by an internal expanding one"
tabellarius de verbis ostensor gaudium

You are correct, the light run on acetylene gas. I have one of these lights and play with it when bored.
you unscrew or open the bottom, shove a load of calcium carbonate in, and fill the water reservoir above. In use, you twist a small valve and the water drops drip by drip onto the calcium carbonate, and the reaction produces acetylene gas.
It can be very bright too! especially if there is a mantle around the gas jet that is impregnated with lime. Gives a very bright light with a slight tinge of green and is what was used in the early theatres. Thus the term, being in the limelight.
A scaley - pointless fact. YAY!

I think you mean calcium carbide rather than carbonate which is chalk.

Ah...
THAT may explain why it didn't work last time. Thought the stuff was rather cheaper!
they were also known as carbide lamps.

That outfit is just a work of art, look at that basket work for the sidecar..
That veigel speedo is probably worth more than my bike...
My old pop remembers carbide lights and told me with a wink that if the lamp ran out of water on a long trip then you had to use your initiative.. Know what i mean boy..
To think some have problems changing from left to right shift, just look at those controls, may be a plunger for the oil feed to the engine, remember to give that a pump every few miles.
Marvellous..
