NOT the 1965 Bullet!

Link - Ebay

This has popped up before, and I have emailed them. All that has happened is the title has changed from 1965 Royal Enfield Bullet (or similar) to 'Classic Royal Enfield'.

My concern here, is that some member of the public, who may be after their first British bike, Or first RE, and have no real idea that this is not genuine 1965, more like a 2004 Bullet, well dressed up for a 1960's party. I have no idea who should deal with this sort of thing, but I would hate for somebody's first adventure into our hobby to be spoilt by buying this bike. I can hardly believe that after my email, the owner is still saying that it was first registered in 1965, when you can enter the reg. in the DVLA site, and it comes back with a date of first registration of 01/10/2004. Sure; it says date of construction 1965, and possibly that nut to the right of the air filter does date from then, but I bet the rest are metric! Would love to find out the frame and engine number!

This is from the seller, and below is from the DVLA

There is the possibility of genuine lack of knowledge on the part of the owner, but after my email, the fact that it still states 'Registered in 1965' and also seems to mis-lead elsewhere, I think this is more like deceit or sharp practice.

So sorry, basically a rant, but I don't want some poor person coming on here, finding their pride and joy is only ten years old, if maybe we could have done something about it beforehand (like many of us send the seller an email).

Silly me, forgot to add, Check out their 50% feedback rating! (travelled 3 hours to pick up van, it had non-disclosed faults!)

Ok, they only sold two things, but not a very promising start is it?

Interestingly the seller seems to have a link to Moto GB ('MotoGB T/A Millenium Motorcycles')the RE importer....

I just noticed this...

Image

Ho, Ho, Ho, Ha, Ha, Ha, He, He, He!

I see 'not as described' as being a possible factor here!

65 should have fins under the crankcase breather and my some mistake there is no pic on the left hand side. We often see this sort of thing out here as well and most are called a 65 for some reason, even the 500's. Indians can do pretty much anything with dodgy paperwork so it may not be all the sellers fault even though we know it is all built from new parts with a 1965 frame number stamped on a brand new frame. In India you can obviously buy brand new frames with no frame number. I have seen 3 of these recently, no way are they an old frame that has been cleaned up

AND THIS...

Remember it stated...

Trade sale? Now let's look under the "about us" tab to discover...

That's hardly 'ride and enjoy a true classic'.

To me, this is bloody unacceptable!

What do others of us think about this?

Scaly, I'm with you on this. Sadly, loads of these Indian cobbled up fake bikes are around. Many people who buy them from authentic looking (!) Indian websites don't bother to do any proper research and then try and sell them on to someone else here in the UK when they find they've bought a lemon. Good news is they won't get a dating certificate from the REOC (although weirdly, the VMCC who have no access to the records have been stated as giving dating certificates in some adverts,) and so sites like Ebay are an easy way to unload. We have had several examples of buyers turning up here (long after our advice might have done some good,) only to find they've been done. I usually try and hold back on comment on these bikes as we must assume everyone is a grown up fit to make their own mistakes but I agree with you!

I have just asked the seller to advise what documentation he has that this is a 1965 model, I will let you all know what (if) he answers with.

I asked the seller, he did reply, saying he had registration document and matching numbers.

At the end of the day as long as it can be registered, it isn't like the Indian Enfields have reached some form of collector status where people chase them because they are no longer available, it is what it is and if it can be registered I don't see a great issue. There is a Chang kicking around out here on ebay at the moment that has a BMW tag fitted to it and the seller claims it is an early BMW rebuilt with later model parts but we know that HM Moto in China that rebuilds these things fit this BMW tag, it is on their website. Now this is deceitful but like in everything on ebay you have to do your research first
